How to Have a “God Blessed” New Beginning
Out with the old and in with the new
We are on the brink of a new calendar year and hopes are high with people from all over the world. For some, change will be one of quality and for others, they will experience the same old things that they’ve experienced over the past ten years.
In fact, a change in the calendar is not what produces qualative changes in ones life, no more than the change of the weather does. The word “NEW” denotes change, and people have a desire for a qualitative change. However, desire alone will not produce these results.
Whenever, we begin a new year, the first thing that comes to my mind is God and His Word. How does God begin what He begins? The obvious answer for most of us, is that God begins with the Word. I would like to also add that God begins with The Blessing as we see outlined in the first chapter of Genesis. Genesis 1:22, 28
The Blessing involves pronouncing or invoking a mantle of favor and protection over the recipient of The Blessing. The Blessing is greater than a little remark used when someone sneezes, which is actually a practice born out of superstition.
The Blessing is a spoken wordcharged with creative ability that causes the effect of the words to come upon the hearers, and is God’s way of imparting His image into a person.
The first mention of The Blessing is found in the Garden of Eden. The Blessing is the divine empowerment to re-create the conditions of the Garden of Eden wherever we are, So that, God's glory would fill the earth!
In order to access a God Blessed New Beginning, we must begin with a Word from God.
Some think that new beginnings start on the outside, i.e.… a new house, new car, new marriage, new job, new calendar year, etc… However, The God Blessed New Beginnings starts on the inside, and work their way outward.
The God Blessed New Beginning flows in the same direction of the triune man - spirit, soul and body. The Apostle Paul gave us the direction of the triune man, as outlined in the following verse:
1 Thessalonians 5:23 – And the very God of Peace sanctify you wholly and I pray God your whole (1)spirit and (2)soul and (3)body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
You are a spirit, you possess a soul and you live in a physical body!
The God Blessed New Beginnings, start with God & His Word and move from the spirit of man to the soul of man and through to the body realm of mankind.
1. The Spirit man is the eternal you, the part of you that was re-born.
2. The Soul of man is the mind, will and emotions, the part of you that is re-newed.
3. The Body part of man is the earth suit, and is the part of you that is re-trained.
Before we get into this any further, there are two Greek words for "NEW" that we need to be aware of:
1. Neos - Quantitatively or chronologically new! Another of the same kind!
2. Kainos - Qualitatively new! Another of a different kind!
Newness, in the sense of chronological time, is unavoidable while on earth. Unlike neos, kainos is not a chronological change, but a qualitative one. For example the unregenerate man can only experience The God Blessed New Beginning by getting born again.
Ezekiel 36:26 - "Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new Spirit within you;...
2 Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
So then, if we follow the direction and pattern of spirit, soul, and body, we can see clearly, that the first key to " The God Blessed New Beginning " in life, is the "New Birth" as the new birth deals with your spirit, and restores The Blessing that was lost in the fall of mankind. Galatians 3:13-14, 29
The God Blessed New Beginning for the unsaved man starts with the new birth, but for the saved man, it starts with mind renewal. Even, after the new birth, God continues to deal with your spirit. In fact, God speaks to your spirit, by the Holy Spirit, as you meditate the Word, and as you hear men and women teach and preach the Word.
Many Christians, continue to live in the oldness of life, instead of newness of life, which brings us to the second, area of the triune man and it’s relationship to newness.
Mind renewal, or a New Mindset! Without, a new way of thinking, we continue to experience the oldness of life instead of the newness of life that God has for us.
The the first thing we should focus our attention on after the new birth is the re-new-ing of the mind.
Romans 12:3 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The outward transformation in the body realm of mankind will be directly connected to our mind renewal. We can renew our minds progressively in specific areas that we want to see transformed. God wants us to experience a sustaining newness!
Romans 6:4 - Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the father; even so we also should walk in newness of life.
The sustaining newness can only happen through consistently acting on the Word of God we are being renewed to.
When you apply the Greek prefix (Ana) in front of either of the two Greek words for new, it would be similar to our prefix (RE). anakainoo – means to bring another stage of (NEW) that we never had before. Example: new angle of revelation, or new creature in Christ. However, the word ananeos – means to refresh or to bring back something that we had before.
We, the “New Man” must move away from the worldly way of thinking and adopt a “New Way” of thinking, in order to effectively enter into the “New Season” that God has for us.
The word for “re-new” in Romans 12 is from the word “anakainosis”, which is referring to a “NEW” of a different kind. This is more of a renovation, than a refreshing.
When putting 2 Corinthians 5:17 together with Romans 12:2, we find that the “NEW MAN” must have a “NEW” way of thinking.
We as Christians, may not be thinking as the world, but we could be thinking less than we ought to be thinking in terms of our potential, responsibilities, and NEW (different)
angles of revelation.
Colossians 3:10 - And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
The New man referred to here in this verse comes from the word “neos” meaning another of the same kind. We are another of the same kind of man as Jesus is and must renew our mind to think like Him. We are in His image!
Paul refers to the “New Man” in Colossians 3:10 as a man "renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him."
The new man is different from the old un-regenerated one in that the (re-generated man) bears the image of God!
The image of God in you is developed through looking into the glass spoken of in
2 Corinthians 3:18. We are already “New Creatures”, the “New Man” INWARDLY; however, Paul is saying that through the renewing of the mind, we are putting on the “New Man” OUTWARDLY.
Generally speaking, to renew is to make new or restore to its original state. However, since we have a new and better covenant based on better promises, we are elevated to a place higher than that of which we fell from in Adam.
Again, the renewing of the mind enables us to walk in the newness of life.
The renewing of the mind will influence the decisions that we make in the new year and will determine whether we experience newness or oldness in our lives. Our lives should be governed by Word based decisions and not feelings influenced by the un-renewed and worldly thinking. Our feelings and emotions should be supported and based solely on the Word of God.
A quality decision is a choice that matches God’s desire for our lives and moves us to correspond in such a way that aligns our lives with God’s plan. This may also mean
re-establishing boundaries that support and protect our quality decisions.
Word directed or Word influenced, decisions are always decisions of quality.
Remember, that the renewing of the mind to what God is saying to us in a particular season will bring about a quality of change that is relative to kainos and not neos.
Meditation is the key to the renewing of your mind.
Meditation is to ponder, revolve around in your mind and to mutter out loud with your mouth. Meditation will lead us into the success that God has for us. Joshua 1:8-9
The renewing of the mind requires consistency and a plan of action. That action plan can include, listening to music, singing and speaking words that will influence your mind towards the rightly divided truth of God’s Word.
Thinking like God will enable us to live on a higher plane or level than ever before.
Isaiah 55:9 - For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
The pattern of "this world" came to us through the five physical senses, via the media, family, friends, and the people with whom we work. However, we need the Word of God in our minds in order to influence our thinking, our believing, and speaking toward God.
The fact that it's possible to think like the old man, after becoming a new man is evidence that our actual mind doesn't change at the new birth. However, we must renew it, to the place of newness.
The New of God — is sustained by the resurrection power of the Word of God, which is why the GOSPEL is the key to newness! The publishing of the gospel actually brings this newness to all who receive it.
We have the capacity of Christ’s mind and by renewing our mind to the Word of God; we allow the mind of Christ to be in us. Again, we are able to influence our mind with the Word of God.
Ephesians 4:23 - And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Vs 24 - And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
The renewed mind has an influence on the newness which takes place in the body realm.
This brings us to the third dimension of the triune man, the body. It is God's desire that we experience newness in the body realm as well. This is all a result of the renewing of the mind.
3 John 1:2 - Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
Now, the fourth and last thing that I would like to meditate with you about is the language of the new man. Because, even if you had knowledge about how the new man should live, it wouldn't be enough, without talking right. You must communicate with the language of the new man! The language of the new man is a language of faith!
Right thinking produces right believing and right believing produces right speaking and right speaking will produce right results.
How is that possible? There is a mind and mouth connection!
Romans 15:6 - That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 1:10 - Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
